A chance encounter with an advert featuring Lakme’s Flower duet turned out to be a defining moment in the life of Pretty Yende. It was as though someone turned on the light and I became alive, Yende in her own words describing the magical transformation she experienced when she started studying opera. This young South African soprano has made a meteoric rise to fame, performing in opera houses from the Metropolitan in New York, to the Paris Opera.
